ATHLETICS MEETINGS REPORTS & RESULTS 2020
U12 OUTDOOR VIRTUAL SUPERTEAMS
24th May- 16 June 2020,
Fife
The recent lack of competition amongst the DTFC athletes saw a number of the U12 age group eager to compete in the Scottish Athletics U12 virtual Superteams challenge over four weeks in May and June
The girls event saw two DTFC teams entered with the more experienced A team coming an impressive 21st out of 80 teams. The team of Eva Gasowska, Rachel Barnett , Sophie Jenkinson and Lottie Thomas produced some consistent and solid performances with their sprints, throws, jumps and an endurance run to make up their event. For the team Eva was the highest points scorer with 274pts which also netted her 8th spot amongst all female athletes. Her 86pts gained for an excellent 800m in a time of 2.47mins was her own particular highlight. The other three girls in her team contributed handsomely to the cause with Rachel scoring 232pts, Sophie netting 193pts and the youngest team member Lottie scoring an excellent 148pts. Rachels 800m run of 2.58mins was her highlight with two excellent standing jumps for Sophie and Lottie of 1.83m and 1.56m respectively.
The younger and less experienced DTFC girls B team also did very well by finishing 63rd. There were only three team members for the B team and not all events were completed hence the lower points total. However Briony Argo, Katie Curran and Freya Kiernan produced some excellent performances to give a very respectable total.
There was only one DTFC boys team with Oscar Simmons, Bradley Moffat, Charlie Hunter and Christopher Doig flying the flag. The team did very well to finish 24th out of 83 teams with Oscar being highest points scorer gaining 248 points whilst finishing 47th overall male athlete. There were a number of excellent performances from the boys with Oscar producing an impressive 75m shuttle sprint time of 26.6secs. It was the standing jump that saw the remaining boys excel. Bradley and Charlie leapt to 1.9m and 1.78m respectively with Christopher just behind them with a 1.61m jump.
It was an excellent competition for the club’s younger athletes to be involved in and well done to all who entered.
NATIONAL INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
29th February & 1st March 2020
Emirates Arena, Glasgow
The National Indoor Championships attracted a small but enthusiastic band of DTFC athletes to make the journey to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. The U13 category were in action on the first of a 2 day Championship and although there was no medal success there were many excellent individual performances and PBs for the athletes.
The only finalist on the track was Sophie Thomas who made the 60m finishing a creditable 5th in 8.6secs. Sarah Kane made the semi finals but despite a good run of 8.77secs she just failed to make the final. Amy Jenkinson was the only U13 girl in the 60m hurdles and after an excellent heat run of 10.64secs she comfortably made the semi finals but just came up short in the final qualifying The only boys U13 representative in the 60m was Charlie Potter where he also made the semi-final in an impressive 8.75secs but again like the girls just failed to make the final.
Charlie was also bidding to make the 200m final but despite again making the semi-final in 29.66secs he didn’t quite make the final as did Sarah Kane whose 30.29secs was enough to make the semis but alas could progress no further.
In the middle distance events Rachel Barnet ran an excellent 5.46mins in the 1500m to finish comfortably in the pack whilst in the U20 male category Malcolm McLure’s 1500m run of 4.25mins saw him secure a solid finish.
Saturday’s field events yielded a number of PBs for the U13s but no podium finishes. Rachel threw 4.15m in the Shot Putt and was joined by Katie Curran who netted a PB with a throw of 3.99m. In the long jump Sophie Thomas and Rachel Barnet were the DTFC representatives but sadly neither were on form and finished in the bottom half of the field. Amy Jenkinson netted a 1.24m high jump PB to secure a mid-field finish but in the high jump U20 category Maia Helm wasn’t quite on her usual form and bowed out after 1.44m.
On the Sunday it was the turn of the U15s with some added events for the U20s and this time there were medals for the club. Darcie Black led the way with a bronze in the long jump after a 5.12m jump, Adom Akouko threw an excellent 10.64m in the shot putt to also net a bronze and Ellie Candlish completed the DTFC medal success with a bronze in the high jump after clearing 1.49m. Elsewhere on the track there were semi-final appearences for Kirstin Penman in the hurdles, Oliver Morrison in the 300m where he ran an excellent 43.7secs in qualifying and Dylan Martin in the 200m. Dylan again made the 60m semi-final with an excellent 8.44secs where he was joined by the in-form Adom Akouko who finished in 8.13secs. The competition in the semis was just too hot for the Dunfermline boys who just failed to make the final.Rory Voss was competing in the U20 category despite being an U17 athlete and produced an excellent 7.28secs to make the semi-final of the 60m but was just outside the qualifying time for the final. There were solid perfromances from Cameron King in the shot putt, Oliver Morrison in the high jump and Callum Netwon in the long jump.
A busy but rewarding weekend for the DTFC athletes who were up against some top athletes in high quality National Indoor Championship fields.
NATIONAL INDOOR RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS
15 February 2020,
Emirates Arena, Glasgow
The finals of the National Indoor Relay Championships were held at the Emirates in Glasgow on the same bill as the Muller Invitational. The two DTFC teams that made the final were able to warm up and mingle with some of the world’s best athletes before taking the stage on the 200m track.
The U15 girls team were first up and the young team of Darcie Black, Aaliyah Adebesi, Kirstin Penman and Shayna Asamoah ran an excellent race but finished fourth just one second behind VP Glasgow in 1.53.85mins. The girls can be proud of their performances as three of them were first year U15s and the other a very young second year U15. They will only improve over the next twelve months.
The U15 boys team had to make a late change when Dylan Martin became unavailable so Callum Newton was drafted in to take his place. Along with David Cuthbert, Adom Akouko and Oliver Morrison the boys ran a brave race but were 6th in a creditable 1.51.49mins.
Well done all in making their finals in what were highly competitive fields.
U12 SUPERTEAMS
9th February 2020,
Emirates Arena , Glasgow
The annual U12 Superteams extravaganza took place at the Emirates in Glasgow at the beginning of February and four DTFC teams made their way over hoping to make a strong impression amongst the hundred other teams taking part.
The boys A team fared best finishing and excellent 4th overall in a field of 46 teams whilst amassing 738 points. Charlie Potter was the main points scorer for the team in a field of over 180 athletes with a 10th spot in both the 60m with a time of 9.11secs and long jump with a leap of 3.79m. Caleb Munro was 14th in his 60m with an impressive time of 9.21secs whilst the highlights from the other team members were a shot putt of 5.22m from Oscar Simmons and a 60m sprint time of 9.65 secs for Zak Alexander. The boys A also finished a terrific 4th in their relay with a time of 2.04mins.
The boys B team competed very well with the team proving to be consistent if not spectacular. A shot putt of 5.45m by MacKenzie King was the teams main points scorer but some solid performances from Bradley Moffat , Archie Robertson and Charlie Hunter gave the team a solid final placing of 15th with 519 points.
For the girls the older A team finished a creditable 15th out of a total of 57 teams with a number of highlights from the team. Eva Gasowska’s long jump of 3.50m netted a 15th spot, Milly MacKenzie ran a terrific 60m in 9.35secs to finish 20th whist they were supported with consistent performances from Rachel Barnett and Lucy Gibb to ensure a solid finish. The girls B team were dealt a late blow with a call off for illness but although the team would struggle with only three members they performed admirably with all three girls producing excellent long jumps. Lottie Thomas led the way with a jump of 3.20m , Sophie Jenkinson followed with 2.98m and Macey Wainwright jumped 2.84m to ensure all 3 girls finished in the long jump top 80 out of over 200 athletes. The relays were very tight with the girls A team finishing 19th and the B team 20th although Lucy ran in both teams.
An exciting day which is always thoroughly enjoyed by athletes, coaches and helpers. Well done all.
A more in depth list of the results are on the Scottish Athletics website under the Superteams fixture on the events list.
NATIONAL INDOOR COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIP
1st & 2nd February 2020
Emirates Arena , Glasgow
The National Indoor Combined Events Championship recently held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow attracted a healthy entry from the Dunfermline Track and Field athletes.
After a tough days competition amongst some very high quality fields Darcie Black emerged as the only DTFC medallist scooping a bronze in the U15 section with a very impressive points total of 2765.. She produced a steady performance throughout the events with her highlight an 8.74m throw in the shot putt to nett a new PB. She hovered around her PBs in the other four disciplines but her 800m was not quite fast enough and she had to settle for an excellent bronze in the National Championship.
Also in the U15 girls section was Kirstin Penman who produced an excellent PB in the 60m hurdles of 10.72secs on her way to a points total of 1915.
The U13 girls also had two Dunfermline competitors. Amy Jenkinson continued her fine run of form and although very close to her PBs in four of the disciplines only her shot putt gave her a new best of 4.48m. She finished in a very creditable 15th with a points total of 1631. Rachel Barnett in competing had her first taste of indoor combined events and set PBs in all her disciplines with her highlight an excellent 2.54mins in her 800m. Only one boy from DTFC entered the U15 boys and it was last years U13 winner Callum Newton. It was a solid performance from Callum with PBs in the long jump of 5.20m and high jump of 1.45m and his final total of 1916pts saw him finish in the middle of the pack.
As always the DTFC athletes acquitted themselves very well in what were very high quality fields with some athletes travelling from as far south as Manchester.
NATIONAL INDOOR RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFYING
1st February 2020
Emirates Arena, Glasgow
A host of DTFC teams headed down to the Emirates in Glasgow with an aim to qualify for the National Indoor relay finals which will take place at the Muller Invitational meeting on 15th February. The teams all did very well with all of them making their respective semi finals and two of the teams making their finals. The U15 girls quartet of Darcie Black, Aaliyah Adebesi , Kirstin Penman and Shayna Asamoah needed to be strong in a very high quality line up for their first round whilst up against a very fast Giffnock team however the DTFC girls ran an impressive 1.52mins to comfortably qualify for their semi-final. The once again faced Giffnock and This time Pitreavie were added to the mix but again the girls ran well just being edged out in third spot but qualifying for the final as one of the fastest losers. The U15 boys also made the final with Dylan Martin, David Cuthbert , Oliver Morrison and Adom Akouko producing a stunning performance to edge home in the final spot. The last leg was particularly exciting as Adom Akouko clawed back a 25m deficit to secure his teams place in the final.
The U13 girls and U17 girls also made their semi finals but found their races very competitive and as a result failed to make their finals .
An exciting day awaits both DTFC teams mingling amongst some of the best athletes in Europe at the Muller Invitational.

The final East District Cross Country match of the season saw the DTFC navigate their way to Livingston on a dry and bright January day.
The U11s got proceedings underway over the 1.6km course. Gregor Fraser was the only DTFC representative for the boys and he ran a solid 7.32mins. The two DTFC girls in this age group also ran excellent races with Rachel Barnett’s 7.12mins good enough to secure 17th spot and Katie Curranfinishing well in 8.32mins.These results saw the club finish mid table over the season.
The U13s saw a far healthier entry from DTFC with David Cuthbert continuing his fine form finishing 29th in 12.58mins over the 3.2km course. Mark Harley, Logan Rand and Callum Newton finished just behind him in 31st,32nd and 39th positions respectively with Mark posting an excellent time of 13.11mins.The boys finished a very creditable 8th in the 22 team league after this final fixture.
